Job Description

Legal Counsel Opportunity

Are you ready to accelerate your potential and make a real difference within life sciences, diagnostics and biotechnology? At Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, one of Danaher's 15+ operating companies, our work saves lives—and we're all united by a shared commitment to innovate for tangible impact. You'll thrive in a culture of belonging where you and your unique viewpoint matter. And by harnessing Danaher's system of continuous improvement, you help turn ideas into impact – innovating at the speed of life. At Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, we know time is the most critical facet in the laboratory today: time to get life-saving therapies to patients faster; reclaiming time by automating tedious manual workflows; and saving time spent addressing erroneous or complex results. We are partners in time and accelerate answers to critical questions through the power of automation. We develop innovations for scientists by scientists, with many of our 3,300+ global colleagues coming from the laboratory. It's all part of our time-tested approach to bringing meaningful innovations at the speed of life since 1935. And we're just beginning. Working together, let's put our time and talents together to advance human health for tomorrow.

The Legal Counsel is responsible for providing strategic, tactical, and solutions-oriented legal support to Beckman Coulter Life Sciences' global businesses, with a focus on commercial operations and driving growth. This role partners closely with business leaders and cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact legal and compliance guidance, ensuring alignment between legal risk and business objectives. The Legal Counsel will draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of agreements, while supporting commercial initiatives across regions. This individual will develop a strong understanding of the business, operate with a global mindset, and demonstrate cultural sensitivity when working across international teams. The role requires balancing complex legal considerations with practical business solutions to enable informed decision-making and continued growth.

This position reports to the Assistant General Counsel and is part of the Legal function. This role is remote but our ideal candidate would be located within commutable distance to our office in Indianapolis, IN.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead the review, drafting, and negotiation of complex global commercial agreements across key areas such as sales, procurement, distribution, SaaS, licensing, and joint development.
  • Provide pragmatic legal counsel to business teams on commercial matters, compliance, and data privacy, balancing legal risk with business objectives.
  • Drive legal operations excellence by enhancing processes, maintaining global contract templates, and standardizing policies and procedures.
  • Support enterprise priorities, including M&A and cross-functional initiatives, while partnering closely with IP, regulatory, compliance, and privacy teams, and contributing to litigation or regulatory matters as needed.
  • Build strong partnerships across Beckman Coulter Life Sciences and the broader Danaher legal network, leading initiatives and fostering continuous improvement.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • 3+ years as a licensed U.S. attorney with experience in a nationally recognized law firm and in-house (life sciences preferred); global experience a plus.
  • Excellent academic credentials and active U.S. Bar membership in good standing.
  • Demonstrated leadership and strategic thinking, including mentoring/developing others and thoughtful team building.
  • Substantial deal and negotiation experience, with a leadership track record on executed transactions (e.g., partnerships, collaborations, licensing, M&A, research agreements).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities and stakeholders, with experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to improve legal processes, increase efficiency, and adapt to evolving AI-enabled workflows.

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to travel globally as needed, up to 20% of the time.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Healthcare regulation
  • Software Licensing
